Abstract: In recent years, the European HPC ecosystem has undergone profound changes. EuroHPC JU a joint initiative between the EU, European countries, and private partners to develop a World Class Supercomputing Ecosystem in Europe was created. PRACE is in the process of transforming itself into a European HPC User and Centre Association.

The objective of this BoF is to give an overview of the current state of European HPC activities. We will present and discuss with the different European HPC stakeholders the current state of play, future plans, challenges and analyze critically the European HPC offers and services.

Long Description: In recent years, the European HPC ecosystem has undergone profound changes. The objective of this BOF is to present and discuss the current European HPC landscape and the efforts undertaken to further deploy and consolidate the position of Europe in the global HPC environment.

The BOF will be divided in two parts. In the first part, the diversity of the European HPC ecosystem will be presented around the Infrastructure, Applications and Technology pillars. Key organizations will present in short contributions their service portfolio, role, complementarities, interactions and coordination process. Following key organizations / projects will be addressed: EuroHPC, PRACE, GÉANT, ETP4HPC, the coordination project CASTIEL-2, the national Competence Centers, the Centers of Excellence and technology projects e.g. European Processor Initiative (EPI). Also, representatives from user communities will give their evaluation regarding the current user services provided by the European HPC ecosystem involving the feedback from the audience.

In the second part, the present and future deployment of HPC Infrastructure in Europe and its coordination of competence development will be analysed with the ongoing and future projects and initiatives. We will discuss the EuroHPC investments in Infrastructure and Research, the new role of PRACE in this framework, comparing with similar international projects / initiative in US or Japan. The second part will end with an interactive round table discussion in order to assess the integration of actors, investments and competences towards a well-integrated, strong, world-class HPC ecosystem, what projects to deploy that vision and what structure to guarantee the delivery of a persistent set of services benefitial for the academic and industrial users of HPC. The BOF participants will have the possibility to contribute to the discussion with ranking different services and identifying gaps and shortcomings. The result will be used in order to prepare recommendations on the one hand for PRACE as the new User and Centre Association in Europe and on the other hand for the European HPC ecosystem policy makers.
