Abstract: Storage IO is becoming more of a bottleneck, especially for a new generation of AI-based workloads that are accelerated by GPUs. This session will provide a brief overview of key trends, available solutions presented as lightning talks, and illustrative application performance gains in this space. The majority of the session will engage in an open, forward-looking discussion with the gathered community on promising areas for investigation. Presenters will include those from academia and industry with new and challenging applications, storage partners with characterization, and innovators with new solutions in GPU-initiated storage and greater security. Join us for an exciting exchange!

Long Description: Accelerators are hungry for data to crunch on, but performance is often limited by IO storage bottlenecks that include coordination with the CPU. Innovations in storage IO are bringing us not only storage IO that bypasses the CPU on the data path, but also GPU-initiated IO. GPUs are increasingly used in multi-tenant environments or to work on personalized data that must be secured. A new crop of solutions is emerging to resolve datacenters' greatest security exposure: insecure storage.

This session will begin with a brief overview of key trends that motivate new solutions. We'll present specific problems with applications and solutions with their performance and security gains in lightning talks. The majority of the session will engage in an open, forward-looking discussion with the gathered community on promising areas for investigation.
