DESCRIPTION:Overview: \n\nInterested in taking your scientific computing s
 kills to the next level? We are seeking a senior computer scientist to lea
 d a world class research group in the areas of Architectures and Performan
 ce for the Oak Ridge National Labs (ORNL) and Department of Energy (DOE) m
 issions. Responsibilities include group technical leadership and managemen
 t, and research. \n\n \n\nThe Architectures and Performance Group (APG) de
 signs and prototypes the scientific computing systems of tomorrow. APG wor
 ks closely with domain scientists to solve key computational challenges in
  DOE’s scientific mission. We coordinate and partner with other groups acr
 oss ORNL, other national laboratories, academic, and industry to investiga
 te the fast-moving, dynamic landscape of computing.\n\nThis challenging po
 sition is in the Advanced Computing Systems Section within the Computer Sc
 ience and Mathematics (CSM) Division. CSM delivers fundamental and applied
  research capabilities in a wide range of areas, including applied mathema
 tics and computer science, experimental computing systems, scalable algori
 thms and systems, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data manag
 ement, workflow systems, analysis and visualization technologies, programm
 ing systems and environments, and system science and engineering.\n\n \n\n
 \n\nPurpose:\n\nYou will have the opportunity to provide Research and Deve
 lopment (R&D) leadership to a group that strategically advances science an
 d technology consistent with ORNL’s status as the world’s premier R&D inst
 itution!\n\n\nYou will bring together a group of peers with the primary go
 al of pursuing global scientific leadership, cultivate ORNL’s culture amon
 g group members, and continue to build and scale up individual excellence 
 and impact in R&D. \n\n \n\nMajor Duties/Responsibilities:\n\nBe a recogni
 zed leader in your area of technical expertise that will initiate, lead, a
 nd perform independent R&D on an ongoing basis! Responsibilities for this 
 position include working with the project team to create, evaluate, and pu
 blish novel research ideas, mentoring students, and collaborating with our
  partners and sponsors. Research activities include, but are not limited t
 o:\n\nRapid prototyping and evaluation of experimental systems, including 
 hardware, software, tools, and applications, and being proficient developi
 ng sophisticated software systems, like an operating system, compiler, ada
 ptive runtime system, or scalable performance tool.\nStudying the performa
 nce, resiliency, power, and efficiency of modern and future high-performan
 ce computer systems under various workload characteristics through measure
 ment, modeling, and simulation.\nPublishing papers in high-quality referee
 d conferences and journals, such as SC, ICRC, ISSCC, MICRO, and IEEE TPDS.
 \nActively collaborating with industry, academia, government labs, and app
 lications developers in a variety of venues.\nDelivering research proposal
 s and reporting to major funding agencies.\n \n\nAdditional Responsibiliti
 es include: \n\nLeadership\n\nLead creation of a cohesive group research s
 trategy to ensure the success of new and ongoing research projects to posi
 tion the group for future success.\nSeize on new opportunities and/or expa
 nd existing efforts by tracking industry, academic, and government trends.
 \nAssist staff in setting performance goals consistent with the group’s st
 rategy and members’ long-term career goals. Provide feedback to address pe
 rformance issues in a timely manner.\nAdvise your R&D Section Head with st
 aff development while providing direct and impactful guidance to staff on 
 regular basis.\nAttract a quality, diverse pool of top candidates and hire
  staff members who are committed to extraordinary R&D and aspire to be the
  best in their field.\nLead by exercising the principles in ORNL’s “Resear
 ch Code of Conduct” as a guide for proposing, performing, and communicatin
 g research.\nCoach and mentor staff regarding Battelle’s “Safe Conduct of 
 Research” principles\nLead ESH&Q by example and ensure all work is carried
  out safely, securely, and in compliance with ORNL policies, standards, an
 d procedures.\nExemplify a commitment to “One ORNL” by modeling lab expect
 ations for excellence in research, operations, and community engagement, a
 nd by working in coordination to leverage capabilities across the lab.\n \
 n\nService\n\nServe as immediate supervisor for staff members in group.\nE
 ncourage staff to “think and dream big,” take appropriate risks in their w
 ork, and develop skills that will enable them to pursue new insights, scie
 ntific passions, and research programs.\nAdvance the reputation of ORNL th
 rough Professional Society leadership and involvement, and organization of
  technical events.\nSupport group members by consistently reviewing techni
 cal products such as proposals, publications, and artifacts to ensure high
  quality and consistency with ORNL standards.\nBuild strong interdisciplin
 ary teams across ORNL and the community.\nConnect staff to your scientific
  network and professional societies.\nHold regular scientific/technical gr
 oup meetings and be visible in the labs and workplace.\nAssume front-line 
 responsibility for safety in the group’s laboratory.\nCommunicate the impo
