DESCRIPTION:The High Performance Computation (HPC) group of the Computatio
 nal Science Laboratory (CSL) at the BNL Computational Science Initiative h
 as an immediate opening for an Assistant Computational Scientist to work i
 n an interdisciplinary team to address computational challenges in differe
 nt scientific domains. The successful candidate is expected to design, dev
 elop, and integrate novel computational techniques, including software and
  numerical methods for a broad range of scientific applications, including
  nuclear and high energy physics, chemistry, biology, biomedicine, climate
 , and others. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: 
 1) digital twin technologies; 2) complex multiscale simulations and modeli
 ng; 3) large-scale hybrid machine learning and high performance computing 
 workflows; 4) tools and methods to allow productive use of modern advanced
  computing systems.\n\nThe position will be initially for two years, with 
 the possibility of an extension contingent on the availability of funding 
 and satisfactory job performance.\n\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities
 :\n\nWork in a collaborative team with computer scientists, computational 
 scientists, applied mathematicians, and domain scientists\nPerform innovat
 ive research in high performance computing, machine learning and/or quantu
 m computing pertinent to application needs\nDevelop new research ideas and
  seek out opportunities for funding\nPresent results at meetings, workshop
 s, and conferences\nPublish findings at conference proceedings and/or acad
 emic journals\nLead or participate in research grant proposal writing\nMen
 tor postdocs and students as needed\n\n
