SUMMARY:Scalable Data and Simulation Engineer (Hybrid Eligible)
DESCRIPTION:Overview:\nWe are seeking a Scalable Data and Simulation Engin
 eer to build state of the art software technologies for use in a wide vari
 ety of engineering disciplines, ranging from networked controls to unique 
 modeling and simulation technologies for national security applications. O
 ak Ridge National Laboratory supports unique research needs for the Depart
 ment of Energy and other Government agencies with goals ranging from impro
 vements to energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy, improving
  the resiliency of the national electric infrastructure, and growing natio
 nal defense. Applications will focus on discrete event simulation and util
 ization of machine learning approaches for scalable simulation. The Softwa
 re systems engineer will play an integral role in prototyping, demonstrati
 ng, and transitioning to production complex systems to meet these diverse 
 objectives. This position resides in Systems Engineering and Cybernetics G
 roup in the Computational Sciences & Engineering Division of the Computing
  & Computational Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (OR

 utions for the nation.\n\nMajor Duties/Responsibilities:\nWork with a team
  to move research concepts from exploratory prototype to delivered systems
 .\nResearch, develop and implement machine learning-driven algorithms for 
 improved computational efficiency and scalability.\nApply sophisticated co
 mputing and machine learning capabilities to solve scientific challenges w
 ithin ORNL.\nBuild, test, and maintain software elements of these systems.
 \nSupport modeling and simulation activities to exercise software elements
 .\nSupport field exercises to demonstrate system capabilities.\nProvide te
 chnical leadership for software development teams.\nMentor new and junior 
 technical staff.\n\nBasic Qualifications:\nA master’s degree in computer s
 cience, electrical or computer engineering, or other field relevant to the
  job duties.\n4+ years of systems software experience.\nExperience develop
 ing machine learning approaches for scalable simulation and discrete event
  simulation.\nExperience programming in Python and C++.\n\nPreferred Quali
 fications:\n6 or more years of experience relevant to the job duties.\nExp
 erience with modelling and simulation of complex, interdisciplinary system
 s.\nExtensive experience working with PyTorch and TensorFlow.\nKnowledge o
 f computer architecture, computer networking, and experience with the deve
 lopment of virtualization technologies and/or computer system simulations.
 \nExperience in software architecture and enterprise-scale application dev
 elopment for sophisticated scientific projects.\nExtensive experience in I
 nternet of Things (IOT) applications, machine learning, cloud-based softwa
 re deployment, and embedded systems.\nExperience in leading and working in
  Agile software development environments.\nExcellent interpersonal skills 
 for working within a highly diverse team, as well as strong oral and writt
 en communications skills, good organizational habits, and a high degree of
  personal motivation.\nA commitment to lifelong learning.\n\nSpecial Requi
 rement:\nQ Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and mai
 ntain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is
  a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP posi
 tions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an on
