  Advanced Computing
DESCRIPTION:APPLY Online at: https://nrel.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/NRE
 L/job/Researcher---Scalable--Accelerated-Applications-and-Frameworks-for-A
dvanced-Computing_R11487\n\nThe Complex Systems Simulation and Optimizatio
n (CSSO) Group in the NREL Computational Science Center has an opening for
a Full-Time professional with competencies in advanced computing simulati
on, applied mathematics, optimization, machine learning and/or quantum com
puting research who will help to enable the effective utilization of scala
ble accelerated algorithms, applications, software, hardware, and/or workf
lows on advanced computing systems in support of clean energy research. \n
\nSupported research projects may come from a variety of scientific domain
s and backgrounds but frequently include topics from energy systems integr
ation, wind energy, solar energy, batteries, vehicle efficiency and electr
ification, electrification, power systems, buildings, chemistry, material
science, fluid dynamics, structural analysis, engineering analysis, optimi
zation, machine learning, resource analysis, durability, and resilience. \
n\nWe are particularly interested in a researcher with a background includ
ing:\nEnabling scientific discovery, engineering innovation and credible e
nergy analysis relying on advanced, parallel, scalable workflows, framewor
ks, simulations, optimization, machine learning and artificial intelligenc
e frameworks and workflow deployment in high performance computing (HPC) o
r cloud environments. \n\nThe successful candidate will collaborate with p
artners including NREL staff and researchers, other national laboratory st
aff, university researchers, and corporate partners on efforts to effectiv
ely carry out research and development from the atomic scale to the nation
al scale utilizing NREL’s advanced computing capabilities on- and off-prem
ises. They will be part of small teams identifying, designing, deploying,
and supporting solutions for research and development on advanced, scalabl
e, accelerated computing hardware, which may require consideration of para
llel application and workflow deployment and support, cloud architectures,
hardware and library performance, utilization of machine learning, and/or
advanced math and programming skills.\n\nJob duties and responsibilities
of the position include:\n\n1. Operations and Research Support: Identifyi
ng, configuring, debugging, deploying, and supporting applications and wor
kflows on scalable, accelerated advanced computing hardware and cloud arch
itectures centered on simulations, optimization, and machine learning.\nAp
plication collaboration: Collaborate with NREL and research partners to id
entify, design, implement, and carry out execution of applications and wor
kflows in clean energy research.\n\n2. Research: Carry out computational
and domain research, developing and using advanced algorithms, mathematics
, modeling, simulation, optimization, and machine learning for clean energ
y systems research.\n\n3. Community development: engage with and educate
the clean energy research community through consultations, meetups, and gr
oups to identify opportunities for ML and AI to accelerate research.\n\n4.
Evaluate and track the state of simulation, optimization, machine learni
ng and artificial intelligence algorithms, frameworks, and workflows and t
heir use of advanced, scalable, accelerated, and emerging computing archit
ectures on premise and in the cloud.\n\n5. Publications and presentations
: Author, present, and assist in the preparation of technical papers, repo
 rts, and conference proceedings.\n\n
