SUMMARY:IT Professional – Advanced Computing
DESCRIPTION:APPLY Online at: https://nrel.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/NRE
 L/job/IT-Professional---Advanced-Computing_R11488\n\nThe Complex Systems S
imulation and Optimization (CSSO) Group in the NREL Computational Science
Center has an opening for a Full-Time Advanced Computing professional with
competencies in scalable advanced computing and data frameworks, who will
enable the effective design and utilization of scalable accelerated appli
cations, software, hardware, and/or workflows in support of clean energy r
esearch on-premise and in the cloud.\n\nThe successful candidate will coll
aborate with NREL staff and researchers on efforts to effectively carry ou
t research and development from the atomic scale to the national scale uti
lizing NREL’s advanced computing capabilities in a hybrid cloud setting. \
n\nThey will be part of small teams, guiding technical leadership in ident
ifying, designing, implementing, deploying, and supporting solutions for r
esearch and development on advanced, scalable, accelerated computing hardw
are, which may require consideration of parallel application and workflow
deployment and support, cloud architectures, hardware and library performa
nce, and/or advanced programming requirements.\n\nJob duties and responsib
ilities of the position include:\n\n1. Architect, prototype, implement an
d deploy databases and data stores in support of scientific, engineering a
nd analysis workflows in a hybrid-HPC/cloud setting.\n2. Workflow archite
cture: Architect scientific, engineering and analysis workflows for hybrid
-cloud setting including advanced scalable frameworks and systems.\n3. Op
erations and Research Support: Identify, configure, debug, deploy, and sup
port frameworks and workflows on scalable, accelerated advanced computing
hardware and cloud architectures centered on simulations, optimization, an
d machine learning.\n4. Collaborate with scientists, engineers and analys
ts on enabling utilization of advanced, scalable computing systems for NRE
L mission goals.\n5. Design, implement, support and document multiple pat
hways toward supporting python at scale on NREL hybrid cloud including mpi
4py on advanced networks.\n6. Design, develop, implement, and support con
tainerized workflows in a hybrid cloud setting including mitigation of cyb
er security vulnerabilities.\n7. Design, develop, implement, and support
web technology deployment that rely on scalable compute and data intensive
workflows.\n8. Experience in python software libraries and frameworks in
cluding high performance mpi4py.\n9. Experience programming in Python, Un
ix Shell, Java and C.\n10. Experience with database architecture and admi
nistration including PostgresSQL and MongoDB.\n11. Experience with utiliz
ing NodeJS, JavaScript and other Web technologies.\n12. Experience with
hybrid cloud computing including Amazon Web Services.\n13. Experience in
containerization and scaling including Docker and Apptainer.\n14. Exper
ience dynamically scaling execution of compute intensive workloads in the
cloud.\n15. Experience mitigating cyber security vulnerabilities in comp
lex software stacks.\n- An interest in renewable energy, energy efficiency
and supporting technologies; wind, solar, vehicles, biomass, hydrogen, bu
ildings, batteries, and electric grid technologies.\n- Software engineerin
g expertise coding and testing patterns, version control and CI/CD, engine
ering software platforms and large-scale simulation, learning and data wor
kflows especially using open-source tools.\n- Background and experience in
managing software dependencies in HPC and Cloud environments with commons
tools such as Modules, Conda, Spack, and containerization.\n- Background
and experience in developing workflows, including job scheduler integratio
n, data management of big datasets, data movement, and data availability/s
haring with remote users and systems.\n\n
