SUMMARY:Postdoctoral Researcher – Computational Modeling of Phase-Changing
  Flows
DESCRIPTION:APPLY Online at: https://nrel.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/NRE
 L/job/Postdoctoral-Researcher---Computational-Modeling-of-Phase-Changing-F
 lows_R11533\n\nOnsite Golden, CO or REMOTE\n\nThe High-Performance Algorit
hms and Complex Fluids (HPACF) group in the Computational Science Center a
t NREL has an opening for a full-time postdoctoral researcher to support m
ultiphase modeling projects pertaining to electrothermal energy storage, b
attery manufacturing and green steelmaking. The researcher will develop an
d apply multiphase/phase-field models to simulate solid/liquid phase trans
itions and yield stress fluids with and without chemical reactions. Applic
ations may include structural deformations due to surrounding or penetrati
ng fluids. The implementation of these models will involve original develo
pment of performance portable scientific software development and/or exten
sions of existing modeling software.\n\nPrimary Duties Include:\n\nAdd cap
abilities to existing scientific software tools as necessary to achieve pr
oject objectives, including development of models for phase transitions th
at incorporate molecular-level physics. \nWork with collaborators at NREL
and other potential partners (national laboratories, universities, and ind
ustry) to identify appropriate computational models and/or model extension
s, and design and execute simulation and analysis campaigns to efficiently
address client needs.\nEffectively communicate and collaborate with resea
rchers and engineers operating relevant reactor systems to define the requ
irements of the simulations/models, obtain necessary data as input for the
simulation, and provide meaningful interpretation of the results to guide
experiments, operations, and engineering designs.\nWork with management a
nd senior staff to plan and design projects, determine technical objective
s, and interact with and provide regular project reports to government and
/or industrial clients.\nDisseminate knowledge through publications in tec
hnical journals and presentations at conferences, symposia, and review mee
tings. Provide reports on technical work and input to technical publicatio
 ns and presentations.\n\n
