DESCRIPTION:Overview:\n\nThe Computing and Computational Sciences Director
 ate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a senior scientist 
 to lead a multi-disciplinary research group for a prospective microelectro
 nics program. This new research program at ORNL will develop microelectron
 ics solutions for the Post Moore Era. The thrust areas of this initiative 
 include, but are not limited to, the following: topological electronics, a
 nalog electronics, and integrated photonics. With substantial institutiona
 l investments in equipment and facilities, as well as recent and expected 
 increases in federal funding from the Department of Energy (DOE) and other
  federal agencies, the microelectronics initiative is positioned to experi
 ence rapid growth. Building on this solid foundation, the successful candi
 date will develop ORNL capabilities to address key challenges associated w
 ith beyond CMOS hardware and associated software ecosystem. In addition, t
 he candidate will support ORNL/ CCSD’s science agenda, will lead the effor
 t to respond to new funding opportunities, and will guide the ongoing grow
 th and development of the research staff that will carry out that agenda. 
  A successful initiative lead will build upon internal and external invest
 ments to cement ORNL’s status as a world-class research organization in mi
 croelectronics of the future.\n\n \n\nThis position will be part of the Be
 yond Moore Group within the Advanced Computing Systems Research Section in
  the Computer Science and Mathematics Division (CSM).\n\nThe Advanced Comp
 uting Systems Research Section explores the impact that fundamental change
 s in computing technologies and systems will have on the DOE and ORNL miss
 ion.\n\nOur work has been sponsored by DOE, DARPA, NSF, and others, and ha
 s resulted in numerous awards including ACM Gordon Bell prizes, Best Paper
  awards, and Early Career recognition.\n\nCSM delivers fundamental and app
 lied research capabilities in a wide range of areas, including applied mat
 hematics and computer science, experimental computing systems, scalable al
 gorithms and systems, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data m
 anagement, workflow systems, analysis and visualization technologies, prog
 ramming systems and environments, and system science and engineering.\n\n 
 \n\nMajor Duties/Responsibilities:\n\nThe major duties and responsibilitie
 s of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:\n\nOvers
 ee high quality research in areas related to Microelectronics.\nCollaborat
 e with scientists in the Physics Division, Computational Sciences Division
 , Quantum Science Center, and other organizations at the laboratory to pro
 vide a unified vision and execution plan for microelectronics projects wit
 hin Mentor early career research staff, postdocs, and students.\n ORNL.\nC
 ollaborate with the Quantum Science Center and the Center for Nanophase Ma
 terials (CNMS) at ORNL to facilitate team members’ ability to simulate fun
 damental materials science properties,\nCollaborate with scientists outsid
 e of the laboratory to advance the scientific mission of the group, labora
 tory, the Department of Energy, and other sponsors.\nMentor early career r
 esearch staff, postdocs, and students.\nInteract with the appropriate prog
 ram offices and other agencies to develop and maintain program funding for
  basic and applied research in relevant areas.\nDevelop new research direc
 tions as a basis of continued funding and the overall health of the initia
 tive.\nWrite peer-reviewed papers, technical reports, and proposals for in
 ternal and external release and represent the organization by giving techn
 ical presentations in large public forums.\n \n\nBasic Qualifications:\n\n
 Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related STEM discipline.\n\n6+
  years of relevant research experience outside of degree.\n\nEstablished t
 rack record of research in microelectronics.\n\nDemonstrated success in pr
 ogram development.\n\nExperience in leadership and management, including b
 oth staff and program leadership.\n\n \n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\nPh.
 D. and 10+ years of experience preferred. \n\nExtensive experience in deve
 loping, planning, organizing, leading, and managing activities of a major 
 organizational unit within a major R&D facility, including a working knowl
 edge of policies and guidelines that relate to administration and manageme
 nt of complex R&D organizations.\nExtensive experience managing large proj
 ects with multi-million-dollar budgets.\nDemonstrated ability to write res
 earch plans and proposals and to project a vision for future research rele
 vant to microelectronics.\nA successful record of developing research part
 nerships and collaborative relationships with universities, industry, and 
 research laboratories.\nExcellent communication skills and technical exper
 tise at the highest levels of scientific enterprise.\nDemonstrated ability
  to work in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams.\n \n\nORNL Ethics and
