SUMMARY:Senior Computational Fluid Dynamics Analyst
DESCRIPTION:Overview:\n\nThe Advanced Engineering Technologies (AET) Group
  is seeking a senior computational fluid dynamics analyst specializing in 
 the use and development of computational simulation software for complex a
 erodynamic systems in the support of the nonproliferation mission space. T
 his position will involve the creation and use of custom developed and off
 -the-shelf computational approaches in a research and development atmosphe
 re. AET resides within the Nuclear Nonproliferation Division (NND) at Oak 
 Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The NND is a division operating within t
 he National Security Sciences Directorate. NND staff contributes world cla
 ss research, technology development, risk assessment, and systems analysis
  related to nonproliferation and counterproliferation. The division activi
 ties play a vital role in implementation of national policy issues that st
 rive to ensure global nuclear security. One of the major focus areas of th
 e AET group is the development of advanced approaches to operation, charac
 terization, and analysis of nuclear fuel cycle processes.  The group speci
 alizes in the application of engineering principles supporting the charact
 erization of processes and related materials. The AET group collaborates a
 nd works with staff from other groups within NND and ORNL to assure the fu
 ll expertise of fuel cycle processes are applied to meet sponsor needs.  \
 n\n \n\nMajor Duties / Responsibilities\n\nThe successful candidate, in co
 llaboration with principal investigators and project management at ORNL, w
 ill participate in the development of simulation software to model complex
  system flows in processes relevant to the nuclear nonproliferation missio
 n space.\nThe candidate will be expected to be a heavy end user of the too
 ls generated, participate in model validation activities, identify workflo
 w improvements, and communicate issues to the development team for tool im
 provement.\nThe candidate will also be involved in the analysis of ad hoc 
 problem sets relevant to the nuclear nonproliferation mission space.\nThis
  individual will be expected to perform well as part of a larger project t
 eam and be capable of developing simulation software in a collaborative de
 velopment environment.\nIn addition to these responsibilities, the candida
 te will be a contributor to R&D projects and will be expected to report on
  and brief results throughout the lifecycle of the various projects assign
 ed to them.\nIn this position the candidate will be expected to effectivel
 y interact with various ORNL staff as well as internal and external sponso
 rs. \nThe candidate is expected to work in a team environment with co-work
 ers and management as well as independently; to fully document work perfor
 med in the forms of technical reports, papers and presentations; and to pa
 rticipate in the development of research proposals. \nExcellent communicat
 ion skills including verbal, presentation, and writing skills are required
 . \nThe successful candidate will interface with principal investigators, 
 management, engineers, fabricators, modelers, and test campaign personnel.
 \n \n\nRequired Qualifications:\n\nAn M.S. in Aerospace Engineering or rel
 ated field, and a minimum of 12 years of related experience; a Ph.D. in Ae
 rospace Engineering or related field and a minimum of 6 years of related e
 xperience.\n \n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\nDemonstrated expertise in co
 mputational fluid dynamics analysis, with an emphasis on:\nMesh generation
 \nSteady and unsteady flows\nSensitivity studies\nValidation activities\nE
 xpertise in computational modeling, including numerical analysis, finite e
 lement methods, and software engineering\nExperience in software developme
 nt in the C++ and Python languages\nProven communication skills\nThe abili
 ty to work flexible hours and travel\nExperience in an R&D and/or testing 
 environment\nExperience executing in a high-performance computing environm
 ent\nUse of AI/ML techniques to develop surrogate models and support scien
 tific discovery\nExperience in multiphysics modeling\nExperience in parall
 el programming on large-scale computational clusters\nExpertise in Matlab 
 programming\nTS/SCI Clearance\n \n\n \n\nSpecial Requirement:\n\nSCI\n\nTh
 is position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Compartme
 ntal Investigation (SCI) clearance from the Department of Energy. As such,
  this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated po
 sition. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and parti
 cipation in an ongoing random drug testing program.  In addition, due the 
 SCI, you may also be subject to random polygraph testing.\n \n\nThis posit
 ion is a full-time staff position.\n\n
