SUMMARY:Group Leader, Radar and Computational Imaging
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\nWe are currently seeking qualified applicants for 
 Group Lead for Radar and Computational Imaging (RCI) in the Cyber Resilien
 ce and Intelligence (CRI) Division. CRI leverages expertise in cybersecuri
 ty, mathematics, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and 
 engineering to provide national security and intelligence community partne
 rs with cybersecurity science, critical infrastructure resilience, machine
 -augmented intelligence, identity science, and systems vulnerability scien
 ce. The RCI group leader position affords the unique opportunity to lead a
  group of talented R&D professionals and establish them as a premier R&D o
 rganization by setting a vision, developing a strategy to achieve that vis
 ion, and enabling true impact on critical national security missions throu
 gh a team-based approach and commitment to excellence. The RCI Group perfo
 rms R&D focused on detection, tracking, classification, identification, im
 aging, image enhancement, and localization using active and passive sensin
 g techniques. Active and passive sensing techniques include active and pas
 sive radar, lidar/ladar, active and passive acoustics/seismics/ultrasound,
  tomography, infrared imaging, hyperspectral imaging, and other sensing te
 chniques.\n\n \n\nPurpose\n\nThe R&D Group Leader brings together a group 
 of peers with the primary goals of pursuing global scientific leadership i
 n their field, developing a group strategy to develop a world class capabi
 lity, nurturing ORNL’s culture among group members, and continuing to buil
 d and scale up individual excellence and impact in R&D. The R&D Group Lead
 er reports to and works closely with the R&D Section Head to implement the
  group’s scientific vision; develops group members to enable their career 
 advancement; establishes capabilities that enable programs to excel at the
  forefront of science and technology; performs R&D to advance the field of
  knowledge and/or technology in one’s respective specialty; sets, implemen
 ts, and models standards for performance of work consistent with Environme
 nt, Safety, Security, Health, and Quality (ESH&Q) requirements and busines
 s rules; and ensures a diverse and inclusive work environment where every 
 employee feels safe, heard, and appreciated—a workplace that sets an examp
 le for the broader community.\n\n \n\nThe National Security Sciences Direc
 torate conducts research and development to confront some of the nation’s 
 most difficult security challenges and adversaries. Our directorate houses
  S&T leadership in cybersecurity and cyber-physical resiliency, data analy
 tics, geospatial science and technology, nuclear nonproliferation, and hig
 h-performance computing for sensitive national security missions. We draw 
 on the Laboratory’s exceptional facilities and work closely with leading r
 esearchers in other areas at the lab such as nuclear and chemical sciences
  and engineering, applied materials, advanced manufacturing, biosecurity, 
 transportation, and computing. Our multi-disciplinary research teams are p
 assionate about discovery and innovation as we create science-based soluti
 ons to complex security threats that put public safety, national defense,

 students.\n\n \n\nMajor Duties and Responsibilities:\n\nLead, support, and
  mentor a diverse team of scientists and engineers focused on research and
  development in the areas of radar and computational imaging.\nInitiate, l
 ead and perform independent and impactful R&D on an ongoing basis as evide
 nced by, for example, innovative S&T delivered to sponsors, successful pro
 posals, S&T presentations, professional community engagement, inventions/p
 atents/copyrights, publications as appropriate, etc.\nDevelop a vision and
  implement a cohesive group research strategy to ensure the success of new
  and ongoing research projects to position the RCI group for future succes
 s.\nDevelop and implement plans to pursue new opportunities and/or expand 
 existing efforts.\nAssist staff in setting performance goals consistent wi
 th the group’s strategy and members’ long-term career goals. Provide feedb
 ack to address performance issues in a timely manner.\nProvide relevant in
 put to assist the R&D Section Head with staff development while providing 
 direct and impactful guidance to staff on regular basis.\nAttract a qualit
 y, diverse pool of top candidates and hire staff members who are committed
  to world-class R&D and aspire to be the best in their field.\nLead by exa
 mple by exercising scientific integrity in proposing, performing, and comm
 unicating research.\nExemplify a commitment to excellence in research, ope
 rations, and community engagement, and work cooperatively to leverage scie
 ntific capabilities across ORNL.\nServe as immediate supervisor for staff 
 members in group.\nEncourage staff to “think and dream big,” take appropri
 ate risks in their work, and develop skills that will enable them to pursu
 e new ideas, scientific passions, and research programs.\nAdvance the repu
 tation of the group members and standing of the group through establishing
  collaborations, professional society leadership and involvement, and orga
 nization of technical events.\n \n\nBasic Requirements:\n\nRequires a Ph.D
 . in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or other relevant 
 field for radar and/or computational imaging with a minimum of 6 years rel
 evant experience, an M.S. with a minimum of 12 years of experience, or a B
 .S. with 15 years of experience.\nQualified candidates should have demonst
 rated experience in leading R&D teams and conducting original research in 
 radar, computational imaging, or related areas.\nExcellent interpersonal s
 kills with a demonstrated leadership ability and a strong commitment to a 
 teaming environment.\nStrong written and oral communication skills.\n \n\n
 Preferred Qualifications:\n\nDemonstrated track record in national and/or 
 international engagements that seek to sustain and strengthen the radar an
 d/or computational imaging communities.\nExperience working for or collabo
 rating with DOE National Laboratories (or similar R&D organizations).\n \n
 \nSpecial Requirement:\n\nThis position requires the ability to obtain and
  maintain a Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance from the D
 epartment of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse
  (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-
 placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing pr
 ogram. In addition, due the SCI, you may also be subject to random polygra
 ph testing.\n\n
