SUMMARY:Computational Fluid Dynamics Analyst
DESCRIPTION:Overview:\n\n The Advanced Engineering Technologies (AET) Grou
 p is seeking a dedicated computational fluid dynamics analyst specializing
  in the use and development of computational simulation software for compl
 ex aerodynamic systems in the support of the nonproliferation mission spac
 e. This position will involve the creation and use of custom developed and
  off-the-shelf computational approaches in a research and development atmo
 sphere. AET resides within the Nuclear Nonproliferation Division (NND) at 
 Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The NND is a division operating with
 in the National Security Sciences Directorate. NND staff contributes world
  class research, technology development, risk assessment, and systems anal
 ysis related to nonproliferation and counterproliferation. The division ac
 tivities play a vital role in implementation of national policy issues tha
 t strive to ensure global nuclear security. One of the major focus areas o
 f the AET group is the development of advanced approaches to operation, ch
 aracterization, and analysis of nuclear fuel cycle processes.  The group s
 pecializes in the application of engineering principles supporting the cha
 racterization of processes and related materials. The AET group collaborat
 es and works with staff from other groups within NND and ORNL to assure th
 e full expertise of fuel cycle processes are applied to meet sponsor needs
 .  \n\n \n\nMajor Duties / Responsibilities\n\nThe successful candidate, i
 n collaboration with principal investigators and project management at ORN
 L, will participate in the development of simulation software to model com
 plex system flows in processes relevant to the nuclear nonproliferation mi
 ssion space.\nAs a junior member of the team, the candidate will hone thei
 r CFD skills while developing subject matter expertise in nonproliferation
  topic areas and the execution of successful R&D projects.\nThe candidate 
 will be expected to be learn and become a heavy end user of the tools gene
 rated, participate in model validation activities, identify workflow impro
 vements, and communicate issues to the development team for tool improveme
 nt.\nThe candidate will also be involved in the analysis of ad hoc problem
  sets relevant to the nuclear nonproliferation mission space.\nThis indivi
 dual will be expected to perform well as part of a larger project team and
  be capable of developing simulation software in a collaborative developme
 nt environment.\nIn addition to these responsibilities, the candidate will
  be a contributor to R&D projects and will be expected to report on and br
 ief results throughout the lifecycle of the various projects assigned to t
 hem.\nIn this position the candidate will be expected to effectively inter
 act with various ORNL staff as well as internal and external sponsors. \nT
 he candidate is expected to work in a team environment with co-workers and
  management as well as independently; to fully document work performed in 
 the forms of technical reports, papers and presentations; and to participa
 te in the development of research proposals. \nExcellent communication ski
 lls including verbal, presentation, and writing skills are required. \nThe
  successful candidate will interface with principal investigators, managem
 ent, engineers, fabricators, modelers, and test campaign personnel.\n \n\n
 Required Qualifications:\n\nAn B.S in Aerospace Engineering or related fie
 ld, M.S. in Aerospace Engineering or related field, and a minimum of 2 yea
 rs of related experience; a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or related fiel
 d\n \n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\nDemonstrated experience in computatio
 nal fluid dynamics analysis, with an emphasis on:\nMesh generation\nSteady
  and unsteady flows\nSensitivity studies\nValidation activities\nExpertise
  in computational modeling, including numerical analysis, finite element m
 ethods, and software engineering\nExperience in software development in th
 e C++ and Python languages\nProven communication skills\nThe ability to wo
 rk flexible hours and travel\nInternships or Post-Doctoral experience in a
  CFD related field.\nDemonstrated experience in computational fluid dynami
 cs analysis, with an emphasis on:\nSensitivity studies\nValidation activit
 ies\nExperience in an R&D and/or testing environment\nExperience executing
  in a high-performance computing environment\nUse of AI/ML techniques to d
 evelop surrogate models and support scientific discovery\nExperience in mu
 ltiphysics modeling\nExperience in parallel programming on large-scale com
 putational clusters\nExpertise in Matlab programming\nTS/SCI Clearance\n \
 n\n Special Requirement:\n\nSCI\n\nThis position requires the ability to o
 btain and maintain a Secret Compartmental Investigation (SCI) clearance fr
 om the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substan
 ce Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passin
 g a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug te
 sting program.  In addition, due the SCI, you may also be subject to rando
 m polygraph testing.\n\n
