SUMMARY:Postdoctoral Appointee – Computer Modeling & Analytics
DESCRIPTION:Argonne National Laboratory, a Department of Energy Laboratory
operated by the University of Chicago (UChicago Argonne LLC), is a nation
al leader in basic and applied research, including cybersecurity, critical
infrastructure resilience, and artificial intelligence. Argonne was born
out of the Manhattan Project and in 2021 celebrated its 75th year of resea
rch into peaceful uses of nuclear energy and many other frontiers of scien
ce and technology.\n\nWork at Argonne is diverse, high-impact, and fast mo
ving. The Modeling and Analytics Group is comprised of computer software e
ngineers creating complex models, integrating cutting edge technologies, a
nd developing analytical tools to support energy and national security. Th
ese models and tools are developed by our group and used both internally a
t Argonne and by external sponsors for making critical policy and crisis a
ction decisions.\n\nWe’re seeking a postdoctoral appointee to support the
Strategic Security Sciences Division Modeling and Analytics Group in our e
fforts to develop large scale modeling, simulation, and analysis platforms
in the areas of energy, military, transportation and supply chains. The w
ork involves gathering requirements, designing and implementing complex mo
deling, simulation, and data analysis software, preparing and delivering f
ull-orbed training and user documentation for the analytical products. Inc
umbents will be required to maintain cutting-edge knowledge of advances in
modeling, simulation, machine learning, and data analysis techniques and
tools. Application of new and advanced techniques to very large problems w
ill be key to the long-term success of the programs. Development will be o
n personal computers, high performance computer clusters, or cloud resourc
es.\n\nResearch activities include, but are not limited to:\n\nDevelopment
of large-scale modeling and simulation systems on a wide range of nationa
l security and energy domains.\n\nEmployment of these models on high perfo
rmance computers and cloud-based infrastructures.\n\nDesign, development,
and deployment of novel business intelligence and machine learning applica
tions.\n\nManagement and employment of big data.\n\nPublishing papers in h
 igh-quality refereed conferences and journals.\n\nActively collaborating w
ith industry, academia, government labs, and applications developers in a
 variety of venues.\n\n
