SUMMARY:Software Engineer – Computer Modeling
DESCRIPTION:Argonne National Laboratory, a Department of Energy Laboratory
operated by the University of Chicago (UChicago Argonne LLC), is a nation
al leader in basic and applied research, including cybersecurity, critical
infrastructure resilience, and artificial intelligence. Argonne was born
out of the Manhattan Project and in 2021 celebrated its 75th year of resea
rch into peaceful uses of nuclear energy and many other frontiers of scien
ce and technology.\n\nWork at Argonne is diverse, high-impact, and fast mo
ving. The Modeling and Analytics Group is comprised of computer software e
ngineers creating complex models, integrating cutting edge technologies, a
nd developing analytical tools to support energy and national security. Th
ese models and tools are developed by our group and used both internally a
t Argonne and by external sponsors for making critical policy and crisis a
ction decisions.\n\nWe’re seeking a team member to support the Strategic S
ecurity Sciences Division in our efforts to is to develop large scale mode
ling, simulation, and analysis platforms in the areas of energy, military,
transportation and supply chains. The work involves gathering requirement
s, designing and implementing complex modeling, simulation, and data analy
sis software, preparing and delivering full-orbed training and user docume
ntation for the analytical products. Incumbents will be required to mainta
in cutting-edge knowledge of advances in modeling, simulation, machine lea
rning, and data analysis techniques and tools. Application of new and adva
nced techniques to very large problems will be key to the long-term succes
s of the programs. Development will be on personal computers, high perform
ance computer clusters, or cloud resources.\n\n
