SUMMARY:Quality Assurance and Security Engineer
DESCRIPTION:Tests, evaluates and supports specific science gateways, web-b
ased interfaces for advanced computational resources for OSC clients and p
rojects and also maintains the Open OnDemand project.\n\nAs a member of th
e Ohio Supercomputer Center's (OSC) Gateways Group, the Quality Assurance
and Security Engineer tests, evaluates and supports "science gateways," we
b-based interfaces for advanced computational resources. OSC accelerates d
iscovery for Ohio's academic and commercial researchers by providing acces
sible, reliable and secure high performance computing power at a fraction
of the cost of alternatives, along with expert consultation and secure sto
rage.\nThe Gateways Group supports specific gateways for OSC clients and p
rojects and also maintains the Open OnDemand (O0D) project. Developed by O
SC and funded by the National Science Foundation, Open OnDemand (openondem
and.org) is an open-source portal that enables web-based access to high pe
rformance computing (HPC) services. Clients manage files and jobs, create
and share apps, run GUI applications and connect via SSH, all from any dev
ice with a web browser. OOD is currently installed and running at hundreds
of academic, governmental and commercial HPC centers both in the US and i
nternationally.\nThe Gateways Group is passionate about contributing to th
e academic research and education community. We're proud to work on Open O
nDemand, helping researchers and students to access software and computati
onal infrastructure at universities and businesses in Ohio and around the
world.\nThe majority of OSC Gateways Group members are working remotely fo
r the foreseeable future. Were a small team with three full-time developer
s and a few part-time student developer positions. We run a large open-sou
rce project along with managing a wide range of responsibilities at OSC.\n
People who will excel in this role are self-starters with strong engineeri
ng skills. Many of the position responsibilities involve evaluating and te
sting a full stack application. The ideal candidate is someone with initia
tive to pick up tasks or drive entirely new endeavors and who has strong d
ebugging skills. They will provide security planning, assessment, risk ana
lysis and risk management support. The position will also recommend soluti
ons to develop security requirements, assess security gaps and guide the o
rganization in meeting the security posture requirements. They must apply
existing knowledge of information assurance policy, procedures and workfor
ce structure to provide expert guidance to engineering in the design, deve
lopment and implementation of secure products.\n\nAs a member of the OSC G
ateways Group, this position will:\n• Help with center-wide goals and init
iatives such as supporting the deployment of a new HPC cluster.\n• Evaluat
e and test Open OnDemand apps deployed at OSC (all open sourced at OSC's G
itHub)\nsuch as RStudio and Jupyter.\n• Respond to client support tickets
for issues such as security concerns and bugs.\n• Conduct code reviews.\n•
Mentor student interns.\n• Participate in project management of Gateways
projects.\nAs a contributor to Open OnDemand, this position will:\n• Be re
sponsible for program automated testing and DevOps/DevSecOps.\n• Ensure pr
ogram compliance with security and quality assurance standards and framewo
rks.\n• Participate in the design, testing and evaluation of new features.
\n• Contribute to the ongoing development of the project roadmap.\n• Help
clients triage issues on OSC's Discourse instance.\n• Assist with writing
papers, giving tutorials and presenting at conferences and webinars.\n• Fa
cilitate open source project governance and external contributions.\n• Pur
sue and contribute to external collaborations with other projects and team
 s.\n\n
