SUMMARY:Research Computing Scientist: Data Analyst
DESCRIPTION:UVA Research Computing (RC) is seeking two Research Computing 
 Scientists with data analytics experience to join its new Data Analytics C
 enter (DAC). RC strives to create innovative computational and data analys
 is solutions for researchers. We build and maintain the University's high 
 performance computing platforms while educating the next generation of res
 earchers on the power of advanced computing. The new Data Analytics Center
  is providing domain expertise for researchers who are using advanced comp
 utational methods in their research.\n\nAs a member of the RC team, you wi
 ll further our organization’s mission by teaching research computing best 
 practices, working directly with university faculty and researchers, and e
 ngaging with them to produce new computing solutions within their fields o
 f research.  In addition to working with a variety of researchers, you wil
 l have opportunities to participate in interest group meetings on topics r
 elevant to computational research and explore new computational techniques
  within your domain of expertise. Funding is available for a limited amoun
 t of travel for professional development.\n\nAs an ideal candidate, you ha
 ve an outgoing personality with a passion for providing high-quality servi
 ces, enjoy supporting and educating academic researchers, have some experi
 ence with academic computing, and are able to apply those skills to UVA’s 
 research computing environment. We seek an energetic self-starter and quic
 k learner who enjoys technical problem solving and working on multiple pro
 jects simultaneously, has strong communication skills, and is a team playe
 r. \n\nThese are hybrid roles, requiring an in-office presence every other
  week. \n\nThese positions have committed funding through June 2028, with 
 the expectation of continued institutional support for the positions beyon
 d that point.\n\nResponsibilities:\n\n- Work closely with researchers in y
 our domain of expertise (or a related domain) to understand their computat
 ional objectives within their research projects.\n\n- Advise researchers o
 n the use of existing, research domain-specific software, especially softw
 are available on UVA’s central computing systems.\n\n- Assist researchers 
 by developing and applying novel domain-specific data analytic tools to su
 pport their academic research using central computing systems, including t
 he University’s high-performance computing environment.\n\n- Support resea
 rchers in the identification of University resources for data acquisition,
  storage, management, and retention. \n\n- Help researchers with the stagi
 ng and organization of data.\n\n- Develop educational materials and delive
 r workshops in domains of expertise.\n\n- Organize and attend outreach eve
 nts to enhance the research computing community at UVA.\n\nBenefits Includ
