SUMMARY:Assistant Computational Scientist (JR100711)
DESCRIPTION:The Applied Mathematics group within the Computational Science
Initiative at Brookhaven National Laboratory has an immediate opening for
an Assistant Computational Scientist to work in an interdisciplinary team
to address computational challenges in different scientific domains. The
successful candidate is expected to design, develop, and integrate novel c
omputational techniques and algorithms, including software and numerical m
ethods for a broad range of scientific applications, including accelerator
physics, biology/biomedicine, climate, materials science, and quantum com
puting. The group’s research areas include, but are not limited to: (1) Ba
yesian uncertainty quantification; (2) optimization; (3) decision making u
nder uncertainty; (4) optimal experimental design; (5) model reduction; (6
 ) scientific machine learning; (7) modeling & simulation.\n\nEssential Dut
ies and Responsibilities:\n\nWork in a collaborative team with applied mat
hematicians, computational scientists, applied mathematicians, computer sc
ientists, and scientific domain scientists\nPerform innovative research in
applied mathematics and scientific computing pertinent to application nee
ds\nDevelop new research ideas and seek out opportunities for funding\nPre
sent results at meetings, workshops, and conferences\nPublish findings at
conference proceedings and/or academic journals\nLead or participate in re
search grant proposal writing\nMentor postdocs and students as needed\n\n
