 ) Scientific Networking Division has an opening for a Network Operations E
 ngineer to join the team.\n\nIn this exciting role, you will provide front
 -line support for the ESnet network. ESnet, the Energy Sciences Network, i
 s a high speed network serving thousands of Department of Energy scientist
 s and collaborators, and a global leader in developing and operating high 
 performance network services. ESnet provides DOE scientists with comprehen
 sive connectivity to the global Internet and high bandwidth access to DOE 
 sites and primary science collaborators, including research and education 
 (R&E) networks in the US, Europe, Asia Pacific, and elsewhere. The NOC Eng
 ineer role works for the ESnet Network Operations Center (NOC) and serves 
 as the primary point of contact between ESnet engineers, DOE sites and ven
 dors to provide initial network diagnoses and early problem resolution.\n\
 nWhat You Will Do, at Level 1:\n• Will have responsibility for performing 
 ESnet's incident management processes. This includes observing alarms, man
 aging incident tickets, sending notifications, triaging outages and escala
 ting to the appropriate parties when required. \n• Reliable attendance for
  scheduled shifts including providing advance notice of absences when poss
 ible. \n• Act as the primary external communicator for ESnet operational i
 ssues, including receiving requests and questions from ESnet sites, contac
 ting carriers and peers to report problems and communicating network statu
 s to the wider ESnet community. Maintain a professional and courteous mann
 er in all communications. \n• Interface with ESnet support resources outsi
 de of the NOC team (e.g. security, optical NOC, etc.)\n• Coordinate schedu
 led ESnet maintenance, including performing impact analysis and sending no
 tifications. \n• Facilitate remote-hands work at offsite ESnet locations, 
 including coordinating with vendors and managing shipping and receiving of
  required hardware. \n• Assist in managing ESnet equipment inventory. \n• 
 Assist with hands-on equipment work required on-site at Berkeley Lab such 
 as power-cycling equipment and replacing hardware.\n• Work on and solve pr
 oblems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a r
 eview of a variety of factors. \n\nIn addition to above, Level 2:\n• Ident
 ify and propose opportunities for process improvement and automation. \n• 
 Work on and resolve problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requi
 res evaluation of identifiable factors.  \n• Participate widely in team di
 scussions and share opinions in areas where a group decision is required\n
 • Provide mentorship to early career or newer staff\n• Demonstrate subject
  matter expertise in at least one area of operational relevance (e.g. opti
 cal support, security, etc.)\n• Demonstrate good judgment in selecting met
 hods and techniques for obtaining solutions. \n• Network with senior inter
 nal and external personnel in own area of expertise.\n\n
