Things Are Looking Up for SC23 in the Mile High City

The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis will make a welcome return to Denver for SC23. In addition to celebrating SC’s 35th anniversary year, attendees will find themselves in the heart of Denver’s thriving downtown. While the conference keeps everyone busy, the proximity of pedestrian-friendly 16th Street Mall and its lively bars and restaurants can provide a welcome break for those seeking to recharge between the many presentations, meetings and exposition activities.

Denver Performing Arts Complex

Widely known for its reputation as an active, outdoor-oriented city, Denver is flanked by majestic scenery provided by the Rocky Mountains to the west and plains to the east. Its many parks and recreation areas are used by the locals year-round. SC23 attendees can take in a bit of the scenery at the nearby Sculpture Park, an outdoor venue at the Denver Performing Arts Complex roughly a 10-minute walk from the Colorado Convention Center. Just be sure to dress for the occasion as November temperatures in Denver average about low-to-mid 50°F (10°C) and can dip to below freezing (32°F/0°C) in the evenings. Snow also is a possibility.

For those who can take some time for a quick getaway, Denver can be the jump off to a memorable day trip. Several of the area’s leading destinations are less than a two-hour drive from downtown, including the famed Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre that in addition to its legendary concert venue, features the Trading Post Loop Hiking Trail (open year-round). For those seeking to “drink” in a bit more of the Colorado fare, the Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado, also offers tours showcasing how it produces its namesake brew.
